When it comes to upgrading a London garden, two of the most popular patio materials are porcelain and Indian sandstone. Both have massive benefits, but they serve very different stylistic and practical needs.

1. Indian Sandstone: The Natural Classic

Indian sandstone is a natural product, meaning every slab is completely unique. It has an earthy, rustic charm that suits traditional London properties perfectly, especially Victorian and Edwardian homes.

• Pros: Unique patterns, natural look, often slightly cheaper than premium porcelain, fades beautifully over time.
• Cons: Porous (so it can attract algae and moss if not sealed properly), requires regular jet washing.
• Cost: £90–£140 per m² fully installed in London.

2. Porcelain Paving: The Modern Marvel

Porcelain tiles are manufactured at extremely high temperatures, resulting in a dense, non-porous material. They are ultra-modern, featuring sharp lines and uniform colours.

• Pros: Extremely low maintenance, highly scratch resistant, does not absorb water (frost-proof and moss-proof), very clean aesthetically.
• Cons: Costs more in terms of material and labour (harder to cut), less "natural" looking.
• Cost: £120–£180 per m² fully installed in London.
